Introduction
History of Diriyashakthi Foundation
Diriyashakthi Foundation has been engaged in social service and welfare activities for nearly seven years.
It was actively involved in helping people during the drought occurred in the dry zone including Hambantota district in 2001 and supplied food and drinking water to the effected areas and rice, coconut, milk powder and bottles of water were distributed among the victims.
The Foundation served the people who were badly affected during the floods took place in 2004 and thereafter by supplying food, rebuilding broken houses and upgrading sanitary conditions.
On 26December 2004 the foundation launched an instant operation to the Tsunami victims. The measures were taken to distribute cooked meals dry rations clothes and medicine among Tsunami victims. It also helped the government in cleaning services improving sanitary conditions in effected areas.
The Foundation reached a considerably developed stage in 2007. It was registered as Non Government Organization on 26June 2007. It did a tremendous expeditious service by distributing spectacles, wheel chairs, walking – aids free of charge and conducted free English education courses in 2007.
A project was conducted which helped to establish libraries to develop the level of education among school children and youth.
